Dr. Chanta Sloma (nee Van Laanen) earned a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from Pacific College of Health and Science (San Diego) and a Masters in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine at Southern California University of Health Sciences (Whittier). She also holds a Bachelor's degree from UW-Madison in Horticulture and an MBA from University of Hartford in Data Analytics. She was introduced to the transformative power of acupuncture when living abroad in Thailand and South Korea. One of the pioneers of acupuncture on the Door Peninsula, Dr. Sloma founded New Leaf Acupuncture in Fish Creek, where she helped introduce the benefits of acupuncture to the community. With over 15 years of experience, she has worked to elevate the standards of acupuncture practice and integrate it into mainstream healthcare. Dr. Sloma was the first acupuncturist to serve on the American Medical Association’s Health Care Professional Advisory Committee, and she played the lead role in a successful CPT code change application on behalf of the American Society of Acupuncturists. In addition, she edited the Oriental Medicine board exam textbooks for Dr. HB Kim, including the Handbook of Oriental Medicine, further contributing to the professional development of acupuncturists nationwide.
