Dr. Chanta Sloma, DACM, Dipl OM, LAc
Dr. Chanta Sloma (nee Van Laanen) earned a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from Pacific College of Health and Science (San Diego) and a Masters in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine at Southern California University of Health Sciences (Whittier). She also holds a Bachelor's degree from UW-Madison in Horticulture and an MBA from University of Hartford in Data Analytics. She was introduced to the transformative power of acupuncture when living abroad in Thailand and South Korea.
One of the pioneers of acupuncture on the Door Peninsula, Dr. Sloma founded New Leaf Acupuncture in Fish Creek, where she helped introduce the benefits of acupuncture to the community. With over 15 years of experience, she has worked to elevate the standards of acupuncture practice and integrate it into mainstream healthcare.
Dr. Sloma was the first acupuncturist to serve on the American Medical Association’s Health Care Professional Advisory Committee, and she played the lead role in a successful CPT code change application on behalf of the American Society of Acupuncturists. In addition, she edited the Oriental Medicine board exam textbooks for Dr. HB Kim, including the Handbook of Oriental Medicine, further contributing to the professional development of acupuncturists nationwide. She also served on the Wisconsin Society of Certified Acupuncturists’ Educational Committee and spent 10 years working in research review and acupuncture clinical guideline development.
Alexander Dold, MSOM, Dipl OM, LAc
Alexander Dold, LAc, MSOM, is a nationally board-certified acupuncturist and herbalist licensed in Wisconsin and Illinois. He holds a Master’s of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine from the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences in Oakland, California and is nationally certified in acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and Asian bodywork therapy.
His clinical work focuses on integrative Traditional Chinese Medicine with an emphasis on chronic conditions, women’s health, and neurological disorders. He loves to treat mystery conditions and cases that fall through the cracks of the medical system.
Alexander was the founder of Apricot Grove Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture in Evanston, Illinois, where he practiced from 2007–2024. He has also worked in multidisciplinary clinical settings and developed innovative care models, including a drop-in acupuncture program at the Evanston Athletic Club.
His advanced training includes clinical study Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China, advanced clinical observation with Professor Wu Bo-Ping in Hangzhou, postgraduate mentorship in Chinese herbology, and classical text study including the Shang Han Lun and Jin Gui Yao Lue. He has also completed immersive Mandarin Chinese study in China and the United States.
Alex’s approach is shaped by long-term engagement with Chinese medicine, philosophy, and internal practices, with a focus on practical, individualized care and long-term health support.
